what kind of courses do they have at uni that will help me with owning my own business one day?
The business degrees at universities are often focused more on working in the business world rather than owning your own business. Courses dealing with owning your own busines are often run more in a professional development capacity. NZTE runs courses on running your own business and often the Continuing/Lifelife Education Departments of universities will teach evening/weekend courses on this subject. There are sometimes Entrepreneurship courses offered as part of a Business degree, which could be helpful. A business degree will cover topics like Accounting, Marketing, etc which will all also be helpful for owning your own business. Good luck!
If you start a course at university and then decide you dont like it, would you be able to change to another course?
Yes, you can change courses pretty much anytime in your degree. Lots of people start a course and realise it's not for them and swap to something else. Don't leave it too late, though, because it will cost you!
what school qualifications do you need to be a police officer? cheers.
Sounds like there are a lot of future cops out there! The Police are looking for all rounders rather than specific qualifications - they test for numeracy and literacy skills, verbal reasoning and abstract reasoning skills. Find out more at www.newcops.co.nz - and go in the draw for an iPod!
If I am studying engineering, which university is better, AUT or Auckland Uni?
The University of Auckland Engineering department is very well-established and does rank well internationally. Because it is older, it also has great resources and a lot to offer. However, AUT also has a lot to offer in some of the "newer" engineering fields such as environmental engineering. As well as reputation, it is also important to consider things like department culture and which would suit you better.
How many years will it take at least to get up to your class 5 license?
You need to work your way through the classes starting at Class 2, then Class 4 and then Class 5. You need to be 18 to get Class 2 and generally you'll spend about a year on each class - so it takes around 3 years. There are some accelerated courses which can speed the process up too. You can find out more at http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/factsheets/70.html

what is it like on workchoice day?
It will depend on where you're going but most students find that they learn heaps and have fun on the day! Being in a workplace environment for the day will be pretty different to being a school for a day! You might feel tired towards the end of the day, but keep listening because you won't get another opportunity like this. Other things students comment on is that they really had their eyes opened about what jobs are out there and what they actually involve. Even if you find out your dream job is nothing like you expected and you wouldn't want to do it after all, you've still learnt something really valuable. Keep your eyes and ears open and you will get a lot from the day.

What are the differences between a marketing firm and an advertising firm? Or are they incorparted into each other?
Good question! Advertising and marketing are different although they do complement each other. Marketers work to establish things like target audiences, while the advertisers actually create the ad.
How long do you have to study to become a sociologist? I am interested in Sociology with an like Economics twist. What sort of jobs would this lead to? (sorry thats two questions!)
Generally you would do Sociology as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree, which takes 3 years of full-time study. If you combined this with a BCom majoring also in Economics it would take 4 years. To become a Sociologist proper, you would then go on to do a Masters degree, which is 2 years. Sociology and economics are a good combo and could lead you to a range of interesting careers particularly research. You could work in variety of places - government departments, research institutes or universities are some of the more obvious but you could also go into a business or media environment as an analyst. As you go through your studies, you'll probably come into contact with more ideas too.
Do I need maths for most science (Bio- chem) related careers?

what skills do you need and knowledge plus understanding, to have to be in the travel and tourism industry?
This is an industry where a can-do attitude and a smile can get you a long way! It's also an industry where you can start at the bottom - waitressing, working on a ticket desk, taking phone bookings, etc - and work your way up. Knowing how to stay calm under pressure, being a team player and giving excellent customer service are all really important - and you can get all of these from those entry level jobs. There are also lots of courses in Travel and Tourism, but these should be supplemented with part-time work experience.

Where can I go be be a radio presenter?
There are no specific requirements or training to be a radio presenter but there are lots of people who'd like to get into media. You could do a media, broadcasting or communications course, but alongside that you should be trying to get some experience in the industry. And the best way to get this is probably by offering to do some work experience.
